My name is Akeyo Matsumoto. I am originally from Osaka in Japan. I have been working in the musical instruments industry for over 16 years and have extensive experience with making, repairing and restoring all kinds of stringed instruments.
I started learning violin when I was 4 years old.
I didn’t know how important maintaining my violin and bow were until I met a luthier for the first time when I was a University student.
After I graduated from University I become an apprentice luthier at a workshop in Osaka Japan. After dedicating myself to my craft for almost a decade in Japan I moved to Australia to increase my life experience and my skills.
I worked for several Strings workshops in Sydney and Brisbane before returning to Japan several years later. In Japan I learnt Bass making and repairs in a highly regarded Bass workshop in Osaka.
After returning to Australia and providing repairs and services to Schools and Musicians in Ballarat I am now located in the Wimmera Region.
